MAGNIFICENT FRENCH STERLING SERVICE privately commissioned by Monsieur Chauncey Olcott in 1922 from renowned A. Risler & Carre, in Paris. With the original purchase receipt & monogrammed storage case. Provenance: From the collections of Chauncey Olcott, (1858 – 1932). 

This already stylish Solvang Estate offers an astonishing portal straight into the American Gilded Age, housing the exquisite accumulations of a famous & wealthy family ancestor, Chauncey Olcott – a superstar of the early 20th century American and European performing arts.

French, English, Italian, Irish and American antiques from the famed Olcott collections –spanning the 18th through the early 20th centuries – are characterized by their unusually fine hand-wrought workmanship, and today mingle artfully with his granddaughter’s

keen eye for 20th and 21st century contemporary luxury, comfort, and interesting, clever

AMAZING ANTIQUE FRENCH MUSICAL AUTOMATON depicting circus clown teaching pig to perform handstand. The clown ushers the pig on with a tap of his cane while sticking his tongue out. The pig then executes an impressive one handed handstand. Accompanying the automaton is a cylinder music box playing two tunes. The faces are hand painted with lifelike detail. By Léopold Lambert of Paris (1854 – 1935).

Chauncey Olcott (1860-1932)

Famed singer, actor, songwriter, comedian, playwright, philanthropist “The Golden-Tongued Tenor” was born Chancellor John Olcott in Buffalo, New York to

an Irish Catholic mother and a Yankee Protestant father of working class roots. Despite a series of tragic losses in his family, he left the family saloon and tugboat businesses to

become a performer, and by the beginning of the 20th century Chauncey was filling large opera houses and theatres, performing on Broadway, for President Grover Cleveland, for

English royalty, and topping the charts repeatedly with his own compositions such as “My Wild Irish Rose,” “When Irish Eyes are Smiling,” and “Mother Machree.”
