THE GEORGIAN CUTLERY BOX
Seventeenth and eighteenth century knives and other cutlery were generally owned by the wealthy, made of investment quality materials (silver and even gold, usually richly decorated) and therefore required special protective, lockable cases for display and storage. As such, the cases themselves – often made and sold in pairs – became symbols of status, and were carefully hand worked in fine woods, inlays, and metals. Fortunately, having been treasured and preserved for centuries, some fine examples still exist today.
