Welcome to an estate sale which, by any standards, is an extraordinary event: A Santa Ynez hilltop home with a large, private museum space fully devoted to a passion that took root in its creator’s boyhood and lasted throughout his long life: curating, preserving, and contextualizing mementos of the Old West, reaching back two centuries. When that collector is also an antiques expert with a quick intellect, a keen eye, and a vast knowledge of Western history (let alone a successful inventor and designer), the result is genuinely astonishing!

The rare & the everyday meet here in American collections stretching from the Pioneer period, the American Frontier Wars, the Gold Rush, the Civil War, and into the WWI & WWII eras.

Native American

Artisan Handwork

Antique Navajo blanket, Navajo Crazy Quilt, extraordinary 1890s Native American dress with seashells and buckskin fringe, Native American beaded hide gloves, multiple pairs of Native American beaded moccasins, Navajo blanket/textile in geometric pattern, Native American pottery vessel in red and black, Native American beaded medicine bag, Acoma pottery vessel and diminutive Acoma pottery jar, Native American buckskin gloves, fringed and beaded, plus jewelry, drums, boots, and buckskin clothing.

Vintage 1940’s Black Bart cowboy 5 cent slot machine, crafted in the form of a cowboy with later added hat and poncho, 72″ x 24″, good working condition.

The Real Old West, As Lived

The traditional Western trappings abound, but often in quite special forms that long predate the usual vintage choices: at least 15 antique & vintage handmade saddles, many highly decorated, and no two alike, nearly 100 cowboy hats as individual as their long forgotten owners and rich with silent stories; boots from the spectacular to the hard working for men and women, no one size, style or age (you might find yourself getting a little excited!); a myriad of wondrous chaps (pronounced like the chaparral they were created to resist) displayed throughout; suede and tanned leather vests many fringed, lassos, Pony Express mochilas, horseback mail pouches and saddlebags, a surprising number of sturdy holsters on belts, and many dozens of tooled leather Western belts with fascinating silver buckles, great stirrups and spurs of old, plus varied types of antique bits, bridles, and other tack, horse blankets, oxen yoke, branding irons, and a wonderful full length prairie dress. Many examples throughout of equine figures, Western toys and art, antique cowboy photo books and pamphlets, and a wonderful cast iron horse head tether post, plus endless Western ranch memorabilia.

American Pioneer Hickory Furnishings. Carved sofa & two armchairs with original upholstery. Provenance: Sedgwick Ranch Collectible!
